STEP BY STEP

The Reds head into Matchday 14 eager to return to winning ways in their first road match since March 8, following consecutive defeats to close out a 10-match home stretch between March 14 and May 9.

On Tuesday, May 5, Toronto FC fell 3-1 to Atlético Ottawa in the preliminary round of the 2026 TELUS Canadian Championship at BMO Field. The Reds opened the scoring through Deandre Kerr in the 16th minute, but a second-half hat-trick from Ballou Tabla lifted the reigning Canadian Premier League champions to victory.

Four days later, TFC dropped a 4-2 decision to Inter Miami CF in the club’s final home match at BMO Field before the FIFA World Cup 2026 break. The reigning MLS Cup champions opened the scoring through a ferocious Rodrigo De Paul volley on the stroke of half-time before second-half strikes from Luis Suárez, Sergio Reguilón and Lionel Messi in a 19-minute span gave the Herons a 4-0 advantage. The Reds responded late through a brace from substitute Emilio Aristizábal, including a stoppage-time header set up by Kobe Franklin and Walker Zimmerman, who recorded his first assist for the club on the play. Toronto pushed for another late breakthrough, with Derrick Etienne Jr. denied a penalty shout and Zimmerman narrowly missing with a stoppage-time header, but Inter Miami held on for a 4-2 victory at BMO Field.
