Toronto FC (7W-10L-12T, 33 points) and Orlando City SC (11W-13L-5T, 38 points) battled to an action-packed 3-3 draw at BMO Field, courtesy of goals from Lewis Morgan, Theo Corbeanu and Matheus Pereira on Wednesday evening.
Toronto FC Head Coach made a pair of changes from the side that started in Saturday’s 2-1 victory over CF Montréal with Zane Monlouis and Lewis Morgan coming in for Nicksoen Gomis and Jonathan Osorio.
Fresh off their dramatic derby win at the weekend, the hosts began brightly in front of their home crowd, with Niklas Dorsch setting up Josh Sargent for an early opportunity that narrowly flashed wide in the eighth minute.
The Reds opened the scoring when Theo Corbeanu’s first-time cross, played from Alonso Coello’s pass, found Lewis Morgan in the box, where the Scottish attacker directed a pinpoint downward header beyond Orlando goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau.
The 26th minute opener marked Morgan’s second consecutive match with a goal, following his late equalizer against Montréal four days earlier, while Coello and Corbeanu each recorded the 15th goal contribution of their respective MLS careers on the play.
Orlando City SC were awarded a penalty late in the first half after Martín Ojeda’s cross struck Matheus Pereira’s hand inside the box. The captain stepped up for the visitors and coolly dispatched his effort into the bottom-left corner to level the score in stoppage time, with the goal also making the Argentinian attacker Orlando City’s all-time leading goalscorer.
Toronto FC restored their advantage four minutes into the restart when Niklas Dorsch intercepted a loose pass and raced through on goal, only to see his one-on-one effort saved by Crépeau. Dániel Sallói reacted quickly to the rebound, directing the ball into Theo Corbeanu’s path for the Canadian winger to stab home from close-range.
The 49th minute strike marked Corbeanu’s third goal of the season, while Sallói registered his 10th assist of the 2026 MLS campaign.
Toronto FC nearly extended their lead in the 66th minute, when Matheus Pereira’s low cross into the box was poked onto the post by Benjamín Kuscevic before Alonso Coello fired the rebound over the crossbar.
Orlando City SC drew level for the second time on the evening in the 77th minute, when Iago Teodoro’s header fell to Antoine Griezmann, who volleyed home left-footed to make it 2-2.
The Lions took the lead six minutes later, as Griezmann picked out Iván Angulo, whose pass into the box was precisely curled home by Daryl Dike to put the visitors ahead 3-2.
In search of another late response, the Reds pushed forward in numbers and found a late equalizer when Djordje Mihailovic unleashed a powerful effort from distance. Canadian goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau parried the initial shot, but Matheus Pereira reacted instinctively to guide home the rebound and restore parity for the Reds.
The 90th minute equalizer marked Pereira’s first goal for Toronto FC, with the Brazilian defender becoming the 10th different player to open his account for the Reds during the 2026 Major League Soccer season.
Both sides pushed for a late winner in the closing stages, with the Eastern Conference clubs ultimately settling for a point apiece following an entertaining 3-3 tie at BMO Field.
Up next, Toronto FC hit the road to face Red Bull New York on Saturday, October 17. Kick-off from Sports Illustrated Stadium in Harrison, New Jersey is set for 7:30 p.m. ET and will be broadcast globally in English and Spanish on Apple TV and on TSN4/5 in Canada.
