Toronto FC II announced today the club has signed Brazilian defender Ythallo to its MLS NEXT Pro roster. Ythallo joins TFC II on a season-long loan with a purchase option from São Paulo FC of Brazil. He will be added to the club’s roster pending league and federation approval and the receipt of the International Transfer Certificate (ITC).
“We are extremely excited to add a player of Ythallo’s calibre to Toronto FC II,” said Toronto FC Technical Director Sean Rubio. “He is a competent defender on both sides of the ball, with great passing range and strong positional awareness. Having developed in one of the best academies in the Americas and having been part of Brazil’s U15 and U17 youth national teams, his pedigree and potential will raise the level of the group as a whole.”
Ythallo, 19, joins the Young Reds after spending eight years with São Paulo FC in Brazil, where he made 59 appearances, including 52 starts, for the club’s U20 team across all competitions (Paulista U20, CBF Brasileiro U20 and São Paulo Youth Cup). The São Bernardo, São Paulo native made his debut against São Caetano U20 on January 11, 2022 and scored his first goal against Nacional AC São Paulo U20 on May 13, 2023. The defender also made 39 appearances, including 37 starts, for São Paulo U17 and helped the side lift the Supercopa do Brazil Sub-17 and Copa do Brazil Sub-17 titles in 2020. Ythallo originally joined São Paulo in 2016 after spending time with Grêmio Esportivo Mauaense at the youth level.
Internationally, Ythallo has been called up to represent Brazil at the U15 and U17 youth levels.
