Toronto FC goalkeeper Sean Johnson has been named to the MLS Team of the Matchday for Matchday 9 as a starter following his standout performance and clean sheet in the club’s 1-0 victory over Real Salt Lake at America First Field.
Making a team-leading ninth start of the 2025 campaign, Johnson was instrumental in securing all three points on the road, anchoring a resolute defensive effort with a series of crucial saves. The veteran shot-stopper turned away all six of Real Salt Lake’s shots on target, including a pair of saves in quick succession to deny Alexandros Katranis and Braian Ojeda in the 70th minute, preserving the Reds’ narrow lead late in the match.
Johnson’s commanding presence and leadership at the back helped TFC secure their third clean sheet of the campaign and the club’s first victory of the 2025 season. The Lilburn, Georgia native continues a productive start to his 15th MLS season, completing 31 saves through nine matches while recording three clean sheets and conceding only one goal in the club’s last four matches since March 29.
The honour marks Johnson’s first MLS Team of the Matchday selection of the 2025 season and his fifth overall since joining Toronto FC. In total, Toronto FC have now earned two MLS Team of the Matchday selections during the 2025 MLS regular season – Federico Bernardeschi (1) and Sean Johnson (1).
