Toronto FC (3-8-4, 13 points) host Eastern Conference leaders Philadelphia Union (9-3-3, 30 points) at BMO Field on Wednesday evening in the club’s 300th MLS regular season home match. The Matchday 16 clash in Toronto, Ontario kicks off at 7:30 p.m. ET and will be broadcast globally in English and Spanish on MLS Season Pass on the Apple TV app and on TSN4 in Canada.
TFC enter the midweek matchup following a pair of contrasting results: an emphatic 6-1 road win over CF Montréal on May 17, followed by a narrow 2-1 home loss to Nashville SC last weekend. Historically, TFC hold a 14W-11L-8T record across 33 regular season meetings with the Union and are unbeaten at home in the last four encounters dating back to October 2021. The Reds will look to continue the streak and replicate last season’s home victory over Philadelphia on July 13, 2024.
HOME SWEET HOME
Toronto FC’s 2025 Major League Soccer campaign continues with the first of two regular season meetings against Philadelphia Union on Wednesday evening. Following their first nine home matches of 2025, the Reds hold a 123W-97L-79T all-time record (448 points) in MLS regular season matches played on home soil to date.

AN ODE TO THE PAST
TFC host the Eastern Conference’s Philadelphia Union for the 34th encounter in the all-time series between the two clubs. Historically, TFC hold a 14W-11L-8T record through their first 33 regular season meetings with the Union. The two Eastern Conference clubs have previously met 17 times at BMO Field, with Toronto leading the all-time series on home soil – earning 10 wins to Philadelphia’s three, along with four ties. TFC remain unbeaten in the last four home encounters against the Union, recording three wins and a tie since October 2021. The Reds will look for a repeat of their most recent home victory against the Union, a 2-1 come-from-behind win on July 13, 2024, highlighted by second-half strikes through Deandre Kerr and a Philly own goal at BMO Field.
STEP BY STEP
The Reds head into the midweek matchup following a pair of contrasting results – an emphatic 6-1 road win over CF Montréal followed by a narrow 2-1 home loss to Nashville SC.
On May 17, TFC ran out 6-1 winners against CF Montréal in their Rivalry Week clash, powered by braces from Federico Bernardeschi and Theo Corbeanu, along with goals from Tyrese Spicer and Ola Brynhildsen. The performance marked the first time in club history that the Reds scored six goals in an MLS match. Bernardeschi, Corbeanu and Brynhildsen were all named to the MLS Team of the Matchday for Matchday 14, after the attacking trio played a role in each of Toronto’s six goals in the latest ‘401 Derby’ triumph.
A week later, Toronto FC came up short in a late comeback attempt, falling 2-1 to Nashville SC on Saturday evening at BMO Field. Englishman Sam Surridge opened the scoring in the 57th minute before the striker completed his brace in the 89thminute. The Reds pulled one back in stoppage time when Jonathan Osorio, returning from injury off the bench, fired a powerful strike from outside of the box into the top corner. Charlie Sharp registered his first assist for TFC on the goal. However, Osorio’s late effort ultimately wasn’t enough to salvage a result on the night.
RECORD-BREAKING REDS
A pair of Reds reached significant milestones in their respective MLS careers during Saturday’s match against Nashville SC. American goalkeeper Sean Johnson moved into fifth place on Major League Soccer’s all-time list for regular season minutes played (37,326), surpassing Kevin Hartman (37,260). The top five now includes three goalkeepers, Nick Rimando, Stefan Frei and Sean Johnson, and two outfield players, Kyle Beckerman and Dax McCarty. Stefan Frei, formerly of Toronto FC, joins Sean Johnson as the only active players on the top five list.
Club captain and Canadian international Jonathan Osorio scored his 50th MLS regular season goal for Toronto FC, becoming only the third player in club history following Sebastian Giovinco and Jozy Altidore to reach the milestone. Osorio also became the fourth active player in MLS, and only the second Homegrown player alongside LA Galaxy’s Diego Fagúndez, in MLS history to reach the 50 goal-50 assist milestone, joining Fagúndez, Luciano Acosta (FC Dallas) and Albert Rusnák (Seattle Sounders).
HISTORY AT HOME
This Wednesday’s match against Philadelphia Union will mark Toronto FC’s 300th MLS regular season home game in club history. Through their first 299 regular season matches at home, the Reds hold an all-time record of 123 wins, 97 losses and 79 ties, recording a total of 448 points.
The Reds’ previous match against Nashville SC on Saturday, May 24 also marked the 600th MLS regular season game in club history.

FOR CLUB AND COUNTRY
Toronto FC defender Richie Laryea has been selected as one of 23 players who will represent Canada in the inaugural Canadian Shield Tournament in Toronto at BMO Field this summer. The new competition brings together Canada, Ukraine, Côte D’Ivoire and New Zealand for a four-match series over two days to determine a champion in the upcoming June FIFA Window. Laryea and Canada will kick off the tournament against Ukraine on Saturday, June 7 at 3:30 p.m. ET, before closing out against Côte D’Ivoire on Tuesday, June 10 at 8:30 p.m. ET. With 60 caps under his belt for the CANMNT, Laryea returns to international duty following an injury layoff due to a knock sustained against Orlando City SC on March 1.
