TFC26-ROS-FullTime-16x9 (1)

Toronto FC (7W-10L-11T, 32 points) returned to winning ways with a dramatic come-from-behind 2-1 victory in the latest 401 Derby against arch-rivals CF Montréal (6W-16L-6T, 24 points) on Saturday afternoon, courtesy of stoppage-time goals from substitutes Lewis Lewis Morgan and Djordje Mihailovic at BMO Field.

Toronto FC Head Coach Robin Fraser made three changes from his side that started against Nashville SC a fortnight ago with Jackson Gilman, Zane Monlouis and Lewis Morgan making way for Richie Laryea, Benjamín Kuscevic and Alonso Coello.

The hosts made a positive start, forcing CF Montréal goalkeeper Sébastien Breza into a pair of quick-fire saves to deny Dániel Sallói and Matheus Pereira in the 11th minute.

Toronto FC were forced into an early change in goal in the 23rd minute, as Luka Gavran was substituted due to an injury, with William Yarbrough entering in his place.

Making his club debut, the American goalkeeper came up with a key save in the 36th minute to deny Alexis Sánchez from distance, keeping the two Canadian sides deadlocked at 0-0 heading into the half-time break.

CF Montréal opened the scoring seven minutes into the restart, as Daniel Ríos tucked home the rebound after William Yarbrough saved Matty Longstaff’s effort in the 52nd minute.

Djordje Mihailovic returned from injury in the 61st minute, coming off the bench to replace Jonathan Osorio and make his first appearance for the club since September 5.

The Reds continued to push for an equalizer, with Matheus Pereira, Djordje Mihailovic and Theo Corbeanu all threatening before the hosts’ late pressure finally paid off in stoppage time.

Niklas Dorsch’s first-time cross, following a short throw from Richie Laryea, was met by substitute Lewis Morgan, who cushioned a left-footed volley into the net to draw the Reds level in the 93rd minute.

The stoppage-time equalizer marked Morgan’s first goal for Toronto FC since joining the club last month, while Dorsch recorded his first assist since arriving in July.

The Reds completed a dramatic turnaround just two minutes later, as a sweeping team move saw Laryea release Corbeanu into space down the right flank before the winger’s precise low cross was swept home by Mihailovic in front of the South End supporters.

The 95th minute winner marked Mihailovic’s eighth goal contribution of the 2026 MLS season, while Laryea recorded his eighth and Corbeanu his sixth on the play.

The two stoppage-time goals, scored in the space of 116 seconds, completed a remarkable late comeback for Toronto FC, securing all three points against their arch-rivals CF Montréal. The 2-1 victory also extended the Reds’ unbeaten run against CF Montréal to six consecutive MLS regular season meetings, with four wins and two draws dating back to May 18, 2024.

Toronto FC host 2015 MLS expansion side Orlando City SC in midweek MLS action next on Wednesday, October 14. Kick-off from BMO Field in Toronto, Ontario is set for 7:30 p.m. ET and will be broadcast globally in English and Spanish on Apple TV and on TSN4 in Canada.
