Toronto FC (6W-9L-11T, 29 points) came up short in a 3-1 road defeat against St. Louis CITY SC (12W-6L-8T, 44 points) at Energizer Park in Missouri on Saturday night.
Toronto FC Head Coach Robin Fraser made one change from last weekend’s road loss against Orlando City SC, with Alonso Coello coming into the starting eleven for Theo Corbeanu. With the start, Richie Laryea, currently in his third stint with Toronto FC, made his 150th MLS appearance for the Reds, becoming the second active player to reach the milestone alongside Jonathan Osorio.
After a hard-fought opening 40 minutes, St. Louis City SC opened the scoring when Alexandru Mățan slipped a through ball to Carlo Holse, who fired home with a powerful left-footed finish.
The hosts doubled their advantage nine minutes into the second half when Tomas Totland capped a passing sequence with a drilled finish in the 54th minute to make it 2-0.
Seeking a response, Zane Monlouis, Theo Corbeanu and Jonathan Osorio entered in the 63rd minute, with the club captain making his first appearance since July 31 after recovering from a knee injury.
The Western Conference club added a third in the 68th minute, as Conrad Wallem pounced on a loose pass and slipped in Simon Becher, who slotted past the goalkeeper from close range.
Toronto FC pulled one back in stoppage time when Alonso Coello’s set-piece delivery was nodded in by substitute Theo Corbeanu.
The 97th minute strike marked Corbeanu’s fifth goal contribution (two goals, three assists) and Coello’s eighth assist of the 2026 MLS season.
The late effort proved to be a consolation on the night, as St. Louis CITY SC closed out the 3-1 result in the American Midwest to extend their unbeaten streak to 18 matches across all competitions, dating back to May 3.
