Toronto FC (9W-12L-12T, 39 points) fell to a 3-1 road loss against Atlanta United FC (9W-18L-6T, 33 points) at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia on Sunday evening.

Toronto FC Head Coach Robin Fraser named an unchanged starting eleven from the side that earned a 2-1 victory over D.C. United in midweek MLS action on Wednesday night.

The Eastern Conference sides traded early chances, with Theo Corbeanu forcing goalkeeper Lucas Hoyos into an important save in the fifth minute before Breel Embolo found the net five minutes later, only for his lobbed effort to be ruled out for offside.

Atlanta United broke the deadlock in the 22nd minute, when a well-worked team move ended with Miguel Almirón finishing from Alexey Miranchuk’s pass.

The Five Stripes doubled their advantage when Cooper Sanchez found the bottom corner with a low finish following Miguel Almirón’s cut-back in the 40th minute.

The hosts added a third six minutes into the second half when Miguel Almirón’s long-range effort struck the woodwork before Alexey Miranchuk slotted home the rebound.

Alonso Coello and Lewis Morgan were introduced for the Reds in place of Niklas Dorsch and Dániel Sallói in the 54th minute, before Richard Chukwu and Derrick Etienne Jr. entered off the bench for Nicksoen Gomis and Matheus Pereira fifteen minutes later.

The Reds continued to push for a way back into the match, with Theo Corbeanu, Jonathan Osorio and Josh Sargent all going close before Lewis Morgan found the back of the net to pull one back for Toronto FC.

The 79th minute strike marked Morgan’s third goal and Josh Sargent’s 13th goal contribution (nine goals, four assists) of the 2026 MLS season.

TFC continued to overturn the deficit for the remainder of the match, with Atlanta United ultimately closing out the 3-0 victory, a result that officially eliminated the Reds from MLS Cup Playoffs contention.

Toronto FC conclude their 2026 MLS regular season with a road trip on MLS Decision Day to face Philadelphia Union on Saturday, November 7. Kick-off from Subaru Park in Chester, Pennsylvania is set for 4:00 p.m. ET and will be broadcast globally in English and Spanish on Apple TV and on TSN4 in Canada.
