Toronto FC II are at the Ontario Soccer Centre this Sunday for a meeting with the Charlotte Independence at 3PM ET.
TFC II is looking to bounce back from two consecutive 2-0 losses, the most recent coming against New York Red Bulls II on August 22nd.
Sunday’s match will be the first meeting between the two clubs this season.
The young Reds currently sit 11th in the Eastern Conference with a record of 5-14-3.
The Opposition
The Charlotte Independence is on an eight game unbeaten streak (4-0-4) after defeating FC Montreal 1-0 this past Wednesday.
The victory put the Independence level with the Pittsburgh Riverhounds for the sixth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference with 32 points. Charlotte, however, has one game in hand.
The team has been abysmal on the road, recording only one win away from home (1-4-5), which came earlier in the week against FC Montreal.
Expect the Independence to approach Sunday’s match with an attacking mentality as they push to remain in the playoff hunt.
Players to Watch
The Independence backline. The team has one of the stingiest defenses in the league, allowing an average of just 1.22 goals against per game – 5th in the USL.
Offensively Ryan Finley leads the line for Charlotte with 5 goals and one assist this season.
Finley missed Wednesday’s meeting against FC Montreal due to suspension but should be back in the lineup on Sunday.
Charlotte has also received offensive contributions from Enzo Martinez (3G, 6A), Jorge Herrera (3G, 5A), and Daniel Jackson (4G).
New Addition to the TFC II Roster
Earlier this week Toronto FC II announced that they have added forward Reshon Phillip to the roster from the Toronto FC Academy.
Phillip, 17, most recently spent time playing for the TFC Academy in League1 Ontario.
